We are only just starting out and haven't done any events yet. But from reading this post I am really keen to get to one. We also worry about pricing, it is such a careful balance, and its very sad that so many people just expect things to be cheap without considering how it is made. I think Capstan's Bazaar was quiet due to the heatwave, same happened the week before at a craft fair..just too hot for anything more than sitting in the garden or on a beach!
I told you I was writing a feature for publication to promote local artists, designers and craftspeople. I am just writing your details up now for the feature..and saw this while doing some research.
Hopefully the article will help promote your good works! Something informal, but with the intention that people come with an idea of what kind of networking opportunities they want. I can manage a couple of hours most days or evenings with a bit of notice. I agree with you about the bias, 'creative industries' seems to have become synonymous only with digital industries, in networking events and in the provision of facilities and properties for creative businesses, places designed to accommodate someone and their laptop and not much else!BunnyBosworthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08292014680819903680noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3710698671853567450.post-7546313131888389132013-07-29T13:46:49.685+01:002013-07-29T13:46:49.685+01:00Great piece of writing Natalie. So many people want something for nothing, but there are others who value originality and craftsmanship. The difficulty is to get our work seen by the right people.
I've also noticed, and been irritated by, the bias towards the "digital" side of the creative industry in any kind of networking events that go on in Liverpool. Your post inspires me to wonder whether we should have a go at starting something for the more hands-on among us. I'm not sure what form it might take but I'm willing to give it a try if you and Becka would care to join in.
Dee Woodnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3710698671853567450.post-19414108115171052742013-07-29T08:05:37.301+01:002013-07-29T08:05:37.301+01:00This is such a lovely piece of writing, and I agre...This is such a lovely piece of writing, and I agree wholeheartedly with every word of it. Craft Fairs are such an important part of my life, and regardless of whether I take a load of money, or just cover my table, I will continue to do them. We have a wonderful community of artists and designer-makers in Liverpool, and I am truly proud to feel part of that (as a direct result of our rich and varied calendar of craft events). Thank you so much for writing this Natalie.Becka Griffinhttp://www.beckagriffinillustration.co.uknoreply@blogger.com
